Sexual orientation
Although the term may sound confusing, your sexual orientation is simply the way you feel, emotionally and sexually, about people of the same or opposite gender. Some people are straight (attracted to members of the opposite sex), some people are gay (attracted to members of the same sex), and some people are bisexual (attracted to people of both sexes).
Although some people know very quickly whether they are gay, straight, or bisexual, others may feel confused, and it may take several years before they are certain one way or the other. Your own sexual orientation will emerge over time and evolve naturally.
It is important that you are able to explore and experience your sexual feelings with an open mind. If it turns out you're gay or bisexual, you'll probably face some unique challenges but there will be support available to you. If you’re open and honest with people, you will usually find that they will respect you for who you are, and not what you are.
