Virginity and promiscuity
Have I slept with too many people? Should I be sleeping with as many people as my friends do? Is it normal to be a virgin at my age? Many people ask themselves these kinds of questions and compare their sexual activity to that of their peers and to what they see on television and in the movies.
There can be a lot of pressure to lose your virginity - that is, to have sexual intercourse for the first time. Having sex with someone just because you want to lose your virginity, or because you think all your friends are doing it, is something you may regret later. There is no ‘right age’ to lose your virginity. Losing your virginity is a very personal decision, and it is your right to only do it when it feels right for you.
Equally, there are no rules about how often you should have sex, or how many partners you should have in your life. Some people have higher sexual appetites than others, and may want sex more frequently and with more partners. The most important thing is that whenever you have sex, it feels right for you, and you take the necessary precautions. Only this way will you prevent unwanted pregnancy and protect yourself from a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
